This analysis function creates an NDVI dataset set from an NIR image. NDVI stands for Normalized Difference Vegetative Index and is an indicator of a crops health. Healthy crops will have a high NDVI value. Bare soil, rocks, etc will have NDVI values near zero. Clouds, water, and snow will have negative NDVI values. Raw NIR data, or Vigor as it is often referred to, is also generated using this analysis function.
Calculation
Running the Analysis
Click on the Analysis Wizard
Select the NDVI Analysis and choose to run it for a single field
Choose the filters to show which field you are running the Analysis for
On the NDVI settings screen choose the grid size or use the image resolution.
Note: If using the image resolution it could result in increased processing time depending on the image resolution. Also, if choosing the manual grid size keep in mind that a larger grid size will reduce the amount of processing time, but it will lower the resolution of the results.
Choose the color bands for processing.
Click finish and the results of the NDVI Analysis will appear. It will have 4 attributes to display, the NDVI, NIR Vigor, OSAVI, and VARI
NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetative Index)- An indicator of crop health in relation to the rest of the field. The higher the value, the healthier the crop.
NIR Vigor - Infrared image that has been converted to numeric values.
OSAVI - Variability in canopy density, shows robust variability in soil brightness.
VARI - Visible light spectrum to detect foliage density, shows how green the image is.
