Assigning Attributes in Shape and CSV Files
How to correctly assign attributes to get the most use out of your data with the fewest headaches.

Assigning Attributes in Shape and CSV Files

  1. Select Read Files > Import a File from Generic Source > desired file type > select the file > Open
  2. Import Preview will display a preview of the data included in the generic file. Click Next.
  3. Change the Import Data Type to the appropriate operation.

  4. Generic files can have Required Attributes to Import and Optional Items to Import. Different Import Data Types or Operations require different attributes to be assigned. Ag Leader recommends assigning as much information as possible.
  5. To assign a required attribute, use the File Column dropdown to select the attribute in the file that would match the Item column that contains the SMS attributes.

  6. To assign an optional attribute, highlight the attribute (in this example we will choose Swth_Wdth_) and click Assign Column. If you would like more information on how attributes are named when they come out of SMS, see the Shape File Assignments attachment.
  7. Column Settings will appear:
    1. Select Use as Attribute
    2. Type in the attribute we want to assign. In this example, we would type Swath Width
    3. Select Swath Width in the Attribute box
    4. Verify the units are correct
    5. Click OK

  8. To assign a Management Item, such as a Grower, Farm or Field, highlight the desired Item and select Assign Column. Then "Use as Management" and select the corresponding Management type.
