SMS Licensing FAQ

How does SMS get registered? 

• SMS licenses are stored online via AgFiniti. Once one is purchased, you will be able to register. You will use your AgFiniti username and password to login and register SMS. 

How many computers can I register in SMS v22.5 and newer?

• Each license of SMS allows you to have 1 registration per user. If a user needs to replace or move the license to another computer, it can be easily transferred.

If it is one user per license, how can I use other computers?

• If your computer breaks, or you need to work from another computer, you can easily transfer your license by logging in on the additional computer and, if prompted, transfer the license. Since the license utilizes AgFiniti, it can be transferred to any computer needed. 

Is there a limit to the number of transfers I can perform?

• Yes, one transfer per license every eight hours. Example: two licenses allows 2 transfers per eight-hour period.

I was able to unlock 2 computers in version 22.0 and earlier. Why the change?

• The SMS license has always been for a single user, but in the past it was tied to a physical computer and could not be moved easily. The new registration process via AgFiniti allows the license to be tracked and the additional ability to transfer to a different computer.

What if I have more than one person in my organization that needs to use SMS?

• SMS is a single-user license, therefore additional users require their own license of SMS.

Does this registration process work with older versions?  

• No, the flexibility offered with the new registration process is only available on SMS v22.5 and newer versions. Please update to the current version to have access to these features.  

If I am expired, will I have access to the version I previously had purchased with this new system? 

• Yes, the registration system continues to grant access to any version that was released when you were current in SMS maintenance. 

Do SMS Advanced modules work in the same way?  

• Yes, SMS Advanced modules like Water Management or Field Trials use the same registration system on v22.5 and newer.  Keep in mind that SMS Advanced modules are an annual subscription based unlock, so an active subscription will also be required to register them. 

Do I need a constant internet connection to remain registered?

• A connection is required for the initial registration. However, it is not necessary to have constant connection to remain registered. The system periodically checks the registration when the program is in use and connected. If not connected, the system will remain active if you are away from an internet connection. After 5 days of being disconnected, the license reverts to the free trial until the next time SMS has access to the internet.

Can other users in my AgFiniti account register on their SMS? 

• Yes, AgFiniti sub-users can register SMS as long as there is an available registration. Sub-users set to Power User or Admin can register, any others cannot. Please review your account structure at www.agfiniti.com to see who has this ability.
